Bridge Stability

Laser sensors on bridge

A monitoring system was needed before Keller could perform compaction grouting to stabilize the abutments for this highway bridge in New Jersey. GEO-Instruments installed a fully-automated, solar-powered, wireless system in just a day.

GeoCloud laser distance meters (circled) are installed below the bridge deck. These monitor for any convergence due to the grouting activity. Tiltmeters built into the laser sensors monitor for any rotational movements.

AMTS monitoring bridge deck

An AMTS system with road prisms was deployed to detect possible settlements. Measurements from both the GeoCloud sensors and the AMTS are transmitted to GeoCloud servers, processed, checked for alarm conditions, and then posted on a secure website.
