SVM Setup Guide

SVM Solar Vibration Monitor
We recommend setting up the SVM in your shop so you can learn how it works and test it. To open the SVM, pull out the cotterpin at each corner.

Lift the solar panel and enclosure out of their folded positions, and then fit the solar panel crossbar into the slots on the enclosure bracket.
Check that holes line up and then secure with the cotterpin on each side.
Open the enclosure. Remove the geophone and its cable.

The next steps show how to connect the fuse, connect the geophone, switch on power, and switch on the monitor.
Insert the fuse into the receptacle and then press the rubber cap over it.
Route the geophone cable through the cable gland on the bottom of the enclosure. Then open the rubber flap and plug the connector into the geophone socket on the monitor.
Toggle the power switch upwards. The LED next to the power switch stays off unless the unit is charging, but LEDs on the cell modem (module on the upper right) turn on.
Press and hold the power button to turn on the monitor.
The monitor boots up and displays its “ready” screen after a few seconds.

Next Steps
  1. Call GEO to set up a bump test. The bump test generates a waveform to check that communications between the vibration monitor and the GEO server are working properly. Instructions coming soon.
  2. When you are ready to deploy the system, bury, bolt, or sandbag the geophone and then position the SVM above it. Reconnect the geophone if necessary. Instructions coming soon.
